Correspondence from T. Charlton Henry to John Torrey, dated 1854, discussing his present army posting as assistant surgeon at Fort Thorn in New Mexico, and the limited botanical opportunities it offers. "I have passed so much of my timeamong the bears and foxes that every plant tho' unfamiliaar by name is yet so by sight," he writes. However, he adds, "You are probably aware that almost all my plants &c. have to be collected as it were with finger on trigger..." At the end of the letter Henry includes 3 small pencil sketches of the flower of an unidentified plant he is sending Torrey. Obsolete plant name Hypoxis erecta is mentioned.
