Excerpt from Cotton Bale Coverings Objectives of this study were: (1) To provide information on the type, weight, and condition of materials used in baling upland cotton; and (2) to describe some recent developments in the packaging of cotton. Complaints have been frequent concerning materials used in covering American cotton bales and the condition of the coverings on arrival at mills. Information was obtained from 933 of the approximately saw gins in operation during the 1957 - 58 season. These gins were selected as being typical in terms of size and type of equipment.
