An Investigation Of The Relationship Between Health Locus Of Control And Compliance Of Hemodialysis Patients

Treatment of end stage renal disease (ESRD) study was conducted to examine the relationship between health locus of control orientation and compliance with therapeutic regimens and was based upon Rotter's Social Learning Theory. Patients were most compliant with following instruction for taking phosphate-binding medication (PBM) and least compliant with limiting fluid intake. Level of compliance for diet restriction fell between the other two measures. Multidimensional health locus of control construct had only slight influence on measures of compliance in hemodialysis patients of Taiwan.
