Optimization and parallel computing are areas of research characterized by an extremely rapid development during the last three decades. The main purpose of this volume is to show the reader a variety of optimization methods and related aspects of parallel computing techniques. The diversity of topics discussed in the book cover a broad spectrum of recent developments in these areas. This book, which grew out of many contributions given by distinguished researchers in honour of the 70th birthday of J.B.
