Mr. President, it is with profound sorrow and regret that I announce the death of my colleague, Senator thomas S. Martin, of Virginia. He died at o'clock to-day at Charlottesville, Va. He met death with that calm composure and courage with which he faced all the problems that presented themselves to him in life. In his death a strong, sturdy character of heroic pro portions disappears from public life. For more than 24 years he served as one of the most influential and potential Members of this body. Few Senators possessed in so high a degree the esteem, affectionate friendship, and good will that Senator martin possessed, irrespective of political divisions.
