Tar Creek Remade

"TAR CREEK REMADE explored technologies of toxic landscape reclamation and their agency in recovering environmental and social equities within a reconsidered critical practice of landscape architectural design and making. Design proposals assisted in the preparation of alternative landscape futures on behalf of the local Quapaw Tribe was well as other tribal and non-tribal communities living on and in the vicinity of the Tar Creek superfund site. The hypothesis underlying the studio is that the remediation of the post-mining landscape and its elements (including chat 'mountains', polluted riverways and settling ponds, micro-wind passages, soil pollution and land subsidence) will initiate the contemporary remaking of the larger Tar Creek Superfund site under the direction and leadership of the tribal and associated local communities."--Overview of studio, page 14.
