For my Masters thesis, I analyze the management of Spotted Wing Drosophila (SWD) in Michigan blueberry using a dynamic structural econometric model. The SWD is a vinegar fly of East Asian origin that can cause damage to many fruit crops. I develop a dynamic structural model to study the SWD management decisions of growers of Michigan high-bush blueberry regarding fly and larva monitoring and insecticide application. I apply my dynamic structural econometric model to a detailed data set I have collected and constructed of daily decisions of blueberry growers in Michigan.
