The Inland Type Foundry was established in 1895 in St. Louis, Missouri by members of the Schraubstadter family with the goal of competing as an independent foundry against the American Type Founders Company. Annenberg notes the difficulties in properly identifying the various issues and reissues of this foundry's specimen books. In 1903 and 1905 Inland released a loose-leaf system catalog and the confusion became greater than ever.
