As more students with visual impairments are integrated into mainstream classrooms, it has become clear that these children are not experiencing the same level of social acceptance as their fully sighted classmates. Promoting Acceptance discusses concepts relevant to inclusion and the issues related to stereotypes, social relationships, and acceptance, as well as factors influencing social interaction of persons with visual impairments. The book also presents interviews with five visually impaired children who have been integrated into mainstream elementary classrooms and provides suggestions and recommendations for enhancing social acceptance and interaction of students with disabilities (including multiple disabilities).
