To the smaller schools it is indispensable, and to the larger it may yet be helpful in preserving the continuity and integrity of the school life, and in maintaining through all its parts the free circulation of the spirit and ideas of its chief officer. Pupil teachers may, therefore, be legitimately employed, not only without detriment, but with decided advantage to the schools, and we are thus free to consider the advantages of the system as a preliminary course of training for teachers themselves.
