The other 39 firms together had ac quired bales of mixed-quality cotton from.the designated trouble areas. Of these mixed-quality bales, about 13 percent were examined for possible cor rection of the quality irregularity, a process which usually required removal of ties from the bales. Of the total bales examined, about Al percent were re conditioned.
