We have organized this history into chapters that describe various aspects of life in Kingston, NH from the past and the present. In Chapter 1 of this book, we describe the natural features and prehistory of Kingston. We also talk about how Kingston was founded and some of its early struggles. In Chapter 2, we discuss the laws and structure of the town government and how they would only be as good as the people who worked to make them effective. Our most famous citizen, Josiah Bartlett, is profiled in Chapter 3. Chapter 4 explores the development of education in Kingston, including the founding of Sanborn Seminary. In Chapter 5, Kingston's libraries, museum, and the Kingston Improvement & Historical Society founding are reviewed. Kingston was originally formed with a church as a part of its governance. In Chapter 6, we describe the changing role and influence of religion in Kingston. In Chapters 7 and 8, we discuss how people in town enjoy each other's company and find time to relax and enrich their lives through social clubs and recreational activities. Chapter 9 is a collection of stories and profiles of Kingston natives and others with a Kingston connection. In Chapter 10, we honor men and women who served in our armed forces and the celebrations held in town. Local doctors that served our community are profiled in Chapter 11. This chapter also covers the epidemics that have affected Kingston. Chapters 12 and 13 address how our business, industry, and agriculture allow the town to thrive and be successful. Finally, in Chapter 14, we spend some time discussing efforts to preserve our heritage and culture. Appendices and Index included.
