Poweleit presents a history of the battalion, the roster of its officers and men prior to shipping out to the Philippines. The bulk of the book is from Poweleit's own diary during the Bataan campaign and as a prisoner of war. The 192nd Tank Battalion did not wholly come from the state of Kentucky, although the unit was based there before deploying to the Philippines. (One company was from Janesville, Wisconsin; another was from Maywood, Illinois, and a third was from Port Clinton, Ohio. Only one company came from Kentucky, and this was transferred to the 194th Tank Battalion before the war).
