Excerpt from Index Catalogue of the Hutchesontown District Library, 1908 In the case of authors who are known by more than one name, the name entered is that which is thought to be the one most generally known and used (baroness orczy, not mrs. Montagu barstow ellen T. Fowler, not mrs. Alfred L. In a few cases, however, where a well-known name has been replaced by a title or other later form, which is coming into general use, the latter has been used, as lord avebury, not sir john lubbock. References have been inserted where it appeared to be necessary, but the prepara tion of a full reference list of pseudonyms and alternative forms of names, which will be applicable to the catalogues of all the district libraries, is held over for separate issue, together with other matters common to-all the catalogues. Similarly, the words chosen as subject headings are those in most general use, references being made here also when thought necessary.
