Half Hull Modeling

Half-hull models were used by early boat builders to aid in their design of a boat or ship. Creating the shape out of wood provided the measurements to be used by the builders. While the original half-hull models (often seen in an antique store or junk shop) described only the hull and were crude in finish, modern modeling of half-hulls frequently includes the cabin structure, keel, and rudder, etc., and a paint job to bring out the true beauty of the vessel. The beauty in half-hull (half-boat?) modeling is that models can be as simple (hull only) or as detailed (include deck fittings) as you like. Moreover, you can make a simple half-hull to display and enjoy, and as you become more experienced, build more complex models --- with a cabin or other detail later.
