The game is un known in either of those countries, although the names Of the best trumps (bowers) would seem to be a copy of Bauer, one of the German names for a jack. It has been suggested that Euchre might be a corruption of the word Eureka, and that it was originally an exclamation used by those opposed to the maker of the trump when they succeeded in getting three tricks.
