Asia Pacific Strategy For Emerging Diseases Apsed

"The Bi-regional Meeting on the Asia-Pacific Strategy for Emerging Diseases, (APSED 2010) was held in Kathmandu, Nepal, from 16 to 18 July 2013 with the primary aim of reviewing the progress of APSED 2010 implementation, including national status progress towards fulfilling national the IHR (2005) core capacity requirements. In addition, discussion was held on current emerging infectious diseases and other public health events and emergencies in the Asia Pacific region, as well as considering ways to strengthen public health response. As a result, priority activities have been identified to be carried out in the forthcoming year by both Member States and by WHO. In both the South-East Asia and the Western Pacific Regions of WHO, the joint 'Asia-Pacific Strategy for Emerging Diseases' (APSED 2010) serves as a framework to help Member States to strengthen preparedness against emerging threats and thus meet the core capacity requirements of the International Health Regulations (IHR 2005). In order to support this vital work, the Asia-Pacific Technical Advisory Group (TAG) on Emerging Diseases serves to provide technical advice and guidance to the respective Regional Directors as well as concerned Member States on the priority actions needed to support implementation of the Strategy. This report describes the proceedings of the meeting of the Technical Advisory Group on 15 July in Kathmandu, Nepal, immediately prior to the 'Bi-Regional Meeting on the Asia Pacific Strategy for Emerging Diseases, (APSED 2010)."--Page 4 of cover
