Thus, many a groundless statement, originally allowed to pass unchallenged, has been so repeatedly put into print that it has now become an article of faith to the unwary. In the same way we have come to accept as fully authenticated certain doubtful marks of which nothing definite has ever sanctioned some merely hypothetical ascription.
